New California Law (AB3088) affects Landlords and Tenants


Effective September 1, 2020, the State of California has new eviction protections arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.  This new law includes new state rules regarding:

  • Protection for tenants who cannot pay rent, including temporary relief through January 31, 2021
  • Nonpayment hardship declarations
  • Deferred not eliminated: Tenants will still owe the rent
  • Expanded Just Cause Eviction Protection for Single-Family Homes
  • Enhanced Penalties for Landlord Retaliation
