Mel Gibson’s “Hacksaw Ridge” Previewed at the Napa Institute
Mel Gibson introduced his newest movie, Hacksaw Ridge, Saturday night at the Napa Institute. It is an inspirational movie based the true story of Army medic Desmond Doss, the first Conscientious Objector to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor, who saved the lives of more than 75 soldiers with only a bible and prayer. The movie’s cast includes Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn, Sam Worthington, Luke Bracey, Hugo Weaving, Ryan Corr, Teresa Palmer, Richard Pyros and Rachel Griffiths. It is scheduled for release November 4th.
Bishop Robert Barron and Dr. Robert George honored
Dr. Robert George, professor at Princeton University in the McCormick Chair in Jurisprudence, and founding director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions, was honored with the Institute’s Thomas Aquinas Award.
Bishop Robert Barron, who serves in the Santa Barbara region of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and who is known for “The Catholicism Series,” and the just released “Catholicism: The Pivotal Players,” was awarded the Napa Institute’s Robert Spitzer S.J. Reason and Faith Award. Rev Robert Spitzer, S.J., co-founder of the Institute, referred to Bishop Barron as the “new Fulton Sheen of the Catholic Church.”
