Clarity, Credibility and Connection matter most amid changing markets
The foundational premise of the book is outlined perfectly in the chapter, “The Game Has Evolved”. The authors acknowledge that AI now writes resumes, screens applications, and heavily shapes hiring pipelines. The rules haven’t vanished; they have simply evolved. One of the most critical concepts they cover is “You are the product”. This is an area where countless job seekers fail because they do not understand they are a product to be marketed. It is your responsibility to communicate your value; it is not the employer’s job to discover it. You must learn how to sell yourself authentically.
This marketing effort begins online.
As the authors state, LinkedIn is your digital first impression. It is not optional; it is your public stage. Quite simply, you are your Google search results. Your profile must tell a compelling story of the unique value you bring. To amplify this, the book stresses the need to create visibility by publishing. Your published work becomes your sales collateral. The process of marketing involves creating visibility, which leads to interest and questions, which then leads to demand, and finally, closing the deal. If you are not visible, you will not create interest.
However, the digital world is only half the battle. The authors dedicate significant focus to networking in person and over Zoom. Submitting resumes blindly to websites is the least effective method today, boasting a dismal success rate of about 3%. As I often advise professionals in transition, the 80/20 rule is very much in effect: roughly 80% of all jobs are filled because someone knows someone. Therefore, you should spend 80% of your time networking.
Practical Tips and Guidance
To truly get the most out of this book, co-author Martin Brossman urges readers to do the exercises that make them uncomfortable, noting that breakthroughs happen outside our comfort zones. They also provide excellent sample prompts to help readers get a feel for how to engage with AI effectively. A few standout examples include:

- “Using the attached job description, act as a hiring manager and conduct a mock interview with five questions…”
- “Turn these five bullet points into a 500-word LinkedIn article on [topic of your choice].”
