Those of us with full-time careers spend more than a fourth of our time each week working. Half the time we’re awake we spend at work! It’s appalling to me how disrespectful so many of us can be toward this portion of our lives. Is work a necessary evil? Is it something that should be compartmentalized outside of our “real life”? Or is work something that is as much a part of our life as our Mass and devotional prayers, our family, personal goals, and charity work? Consider that God invites us to pray unceasingly… How can we balance our life and bring glory to Our Lord not in one or two compartments of our lives, but rather in all of our life, including work? This was the topic of our
radio program this Saturday morning. Some suggestions for bringing a seamless, prayerful integration to all aspects of our life is to commit as a family to dedicated prayer time together, for example, by praying the Rosary — or a decade of the Rosary — together as a family or as a couple daily. Another suggestion is to commit to praying at work, before beginning work, in gratitude and challenges during work… This is just one corner of a much bigger discussion. I would love hearing your ideas and practices. And I invite you to learn more in my newest book, Pearls of Perspicacity, which was written to capture Pearls of actionable, proven wisdom to help you find career satisfaction and success.
