In an unexpected turn of events, University of Notre Dame professor Father Bill Miscamble, C.S.C., has been forced to disassociate himself with a new project (NDCatholic.com) that gives detailed recommendations to students who seek an authentic Catholic education during their studies at Notre Dame. The new project recommends Notre Dame professors who are supportive of the University’s Catholic identity and mission. According to William Dempsey, chairman of the Notre Dame alumni Group Sycamore Trust, the ousting of Fr. Miscamble—a well-respected and tenured professor of history at UND—from the NDCatholic.com project reflects poorly on the university that once was the revered as the pre-eminent Catholic university in the country.
